Sharon R. Behrens, 75, of Sumner, died Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 17, 2017, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner with Rev. Joel Becker officiating. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 16th at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Friday. Memorials may be made in her name to St. John Lutheran Church or to the Sumner Volunteer Fire Department.
Sharon Rosalyn, daughter of Lester and Pearl (Kent) Platte, was born December 27, 1941, in Sumner. She was baptized January 28, 1942, and confirmed March 25, 1956, at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner. Sharon received her education in the Sumner Schools graduating from Sumner High School on May 17, 1960. On March 19, 1961, she was united in marriage with Duane Behrens at St. John Lutheran Church. To this union four children were born, Dan, David, Diane and Dennis. Sharon worked for Meyer Hardware for thirteen years from 1979-1992 before working at Dr. Richard Smith’s office from 1992 until her retirement in July of 2009. She was a life long member of St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner where she was active in the Women’s Circle and taught Sunday School. Sharon was active on the Fireman’s Committee and served as a Cub Scout Leader. She enjoyed playing cards, scrabble, fishing and camping trips, bowling, going for bike rides, but most especially, enjoyed time spent with friends and family.
In addition to her husband, Duane of Sumner, she is survived by her four children, Dan (Anne) Behrens of Schaumburg, Illinois, David (Michelle) Behrens of St. Charles, Illinois, Diane (Pierre) LaMere of Excelsior, Minnesota, and Dennis (Jodi) Behrens of Marion, Iowa; former daughter-in-law, Janet; eleven grandchildren, Lance (Sarah), Drew (Jennifer), Wade, and Grant Behrens, Curtis (Dom) and Dustin (Serena Porter) Behrens, Joseph and Brianna LaMere, and Emma, Evan, and Blake Behrens; four great-grandchildren, Dillon Behrens, Eliza Behrens, Lilah Behrens and Arya Behrens; one brother, Robert Platte of Waterloo; one sister-in-law, JoAnn Behrens of Sumner; and her faithful companion, Charley.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
